A
Gemstone Mining License confers on the holder the exclusive right to carry
on mining operations for gemstones in the mining area. The license may be
granted for a period not exceeding ten years, and may be renewed for the
period for which application has been made, but exceeding ten years. No
Gemstone Mining License shall be granted to a non - citizen of Tanzania,
unless the Gemstone Mining License is held by that person in undivided
participating shares with a citizen of Tanzania whose share or shares
amount to not less than twenty five percent. For a Gemstone Mining
Licence, the maximum area shall be 1.0sq. km.
All
applications on Gemstone Mining License shall be accompanied among others
by the proposed programme for mining operations, which the applicant
proposes to undertake during the first two years from the date on which
the license is granted. An EIA and EMP shall also accompany the
application under this licence where the mining operations falls within a
scale of mining operations set out in the regulations. The Minister shall
not issue this licence without referring the matter to the Mining Advisory
Committee for advice.
